We collaborate with ODES on the following educational projects in Deschapelles, Haiti:

• Early Education Teacher Training: a project whereby U.S. and Haitian educators come together to share teaching methods through hands-on workshops and model teaching. This program was the recipient of Sister Cities International’s 2014 Innovation Award in Youth & Education for a population of less than 100,000. It brought international recognition to this “exceptional sister city program.” To learn more about this award, click here.
• Cross Cultural Exchange Project: an opportunity for elementary school age children from Essex, Ct and Deschapelles, Haiti to share experiences and learn from one another.
• Book Buddies Project: a program that pairs “reluctant” readers and writers at a middle school in Middletown, Connecticut with similar aged children in Deschapelles Haiti. The overall concept is that children from each country read the same book in their native languages and start a “conversation.”
• Legos Activity: a project to encourage young people to use their imagination with problem solving to “build a new Haiti” through the use of Legos.
